So, we managed to get into Hanger to see Cammie pretty quick, so that’s a blessing.

So I was super happy to give Cammie the good news that Amy had not fractured. *high five*

We talked about adjustments to the bow side, and to the gaping side. She said that she had collaborated with Spenser, and he has a theory that she’s just had a growth spurt. It could be the cause of the changing shape of things, so maybe that is the culprit?

How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? ??‍♀️ The world may never know.

Anyways, she’s doing to try do do some reshaping, and rivet a strap in the back to limit her movement. This was probably going to take a bit.

Cammie came back a lot sooner than I expected. I told her how fast she was, but I didn’t expect her response.

“Um, I’m really hoping you don’t kill me.”

Wait… what?

While riveting the strap on, Cammie accidentally cracked the footplate. Like a lot. Like… I’m-reasonably-sure-that’s-not-going-to-be-safe lot. CRAP!

“Okay, so what do we do now?”

“Well you’re taking this better than expected.” she said, relieved.

So we talked about new brace, vs remaking this one, and trying to salvage this one, as well as doing both. Amy’s old braces are going to be WAY too old now. No way could she use one.

We kinda both came to the conclusion that a new brace was the way to go- and I was a big fan of getting it molded today, rather than to make another appointment. She wanted to get with Spenser to discuss some design ideas, and I got on the phone. Why? I needed a prescription for a new brace. Also, she told me I might have insurance issues with the two braces being so close together. ??‍♀️ Damn it!

Off she went to salvage the brace, which now CAN’T have a strap, and I made my calls. Guess what? No problem getting a prescription, and insurance said there would be no issue with the brace, as long as there was documented medical need for it. Dr. Frick will edit the note showing this. Phew!

Cammie came back pretty quickly again. Uh oh. Now what?

“I have a crazy idea!” Remember all the brace drama we had? 4 incarnations of the brace exist, all with varying issues. BUT, all the foot plates were identical. Three were sitting in Amy’s closet, but one was right there in front of us, because Cammie had refused to give it to us, because the part that goes up the leg wasn’t made right.

“Why can’t I just take the foot plate off that one, and attach it to this one? It should fit!”

This woman, man! She is SMART! She got right to work detaching it to make sure it would fit Amy’s foot.

I wasn’t surprised at all when it fit. ? She worked on the shape a little more, cut down the footplate, and Amy went for a walk. She said she didn’t need her chair any more. ❤️

That done, time to make brace #11!

We made an appointment for 11/25 for brace pickup, and headed out. We made it all the way to the front desk… before she asked for her chair back. Damn. Maybe when the new brace comes in, she’ll feel better?
