Post-Op #6 – 18 Month Post Op

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit’s x-ray day!!! I’ve really, really, really been looking forward to today for quite some time. I was a little nervous that she had hurt herself, but mostly hoping for more evidence of positive progress. Guess what? That’s just what we got!!! 2nd McFarland Bypass (Surgery date 12/10/2019) Post-Op #6 – 18 Month Post-Op Lateral View This x-ray looks pretty much identical to 6 months ago, except for the bone callus from the broken area Read more…

Lucky Brace #13

Another day, another brace. Having recovered from Covid, our orthotist Chuck has returned. Today is kinda same-old same-old with another new brace, copying a previous design. Look at her go! Okay, Mischief Managed. Now, anyone want to buy some Girl Scout cookies? LOL

Post-Op #5 – One Year Post-Op

Today was the day. I had been nervously anticipating today for… well… honestly for the last 6 months! This was really going to show us if she was moving solidly towards true healing… or not. We arrived, we hopped up on the table to take x-rays, I was chatty with the x-ray techs, and then she got the x-ray. For the 15 seconds or so I had to wait for the picture to generate, I Read more…

Making Lucky Brace #13

Do you realize what month it is? It’s December. DECEMBER. I feel like I’ve been holding my breath (and not posting) since September. I’ve been waiting for the pain to start. The crying. The ripping off of her brace. The daily request for pain meds, and of course, waiting to pull her wheelchair out of the garage. It’s December of 2020, and we haven’t made it through fall without debilitating pain since 2016. How is Read more…

Brace #12 (Take 5)

Beyond grateful to walk into this appointment saying, “No. she has no pain or redness.” Major win! Miriam got right down to business. Amy’s brace provides good contact if it’s held in place where the gap is. So, we decided to move her strap down further in her leg. That should do the trick! ?? Unthinkingly, I didn’t grab a pic. But she has great contact now, and no pain. Hopefully we’ll be done at Read more…

Brace #12 (Take… 4?)

Amy is having a rough time. A picture is worth 1,000 words, so let’s just see it. Big on the ouch. So, Amy hasn’t been wearing her brace much. Lots of hopping, resting, crawling, and knee-walking here. We had an appointment for yesterday, September 10th to get an adjustment since we had a few weeks before her new #12 was due in. Yesterday I got a call from Hanger, and GUESS WHAT? The wanted to Read more…

Adjusting Brace #12 (Take 2)

Well… here we are, again. Yesterday was our standing appointment we had with Chuck (Actually Spenser) But we were supposed to see someone completely different. (Miriam?) But apparently, they cancelled out appointment. They said they called and left a message, but they didn’t. Someone else was given out appointment. Why? No idea. So, we were turned away and given an appointment the following week. I was very unhappy. Compounding this, I had just spoken to Read more…

Adjusting Brace #12

Well, she made it a whole day. By the end of the day on July 29th, she was in tears from pain caused by her new brace. We couldn’t get in before today though. As a result, Spenser advised us to take the brace off, and go back to her old one. So she’s been in that on all week. Today, we’re trimming and flaring around her knee and ankle. We’re seeing Spenser again, as Read more…

Brace #12

Well, July 14th came, and went. We arrived for her appointment only to find out that not only was her orthotist out sick that day, but her brace wasn’t ready. They had called and left me a message, but I hadn’t checked them. Boooo. Anyway, we were able to reschedule delivery for today.  We arrived to find that our orthotist was still out sick. (More than a week?) So Spenser would be seeing us. (Nice!) Read more…
