I am not happy with our orthotist.
Today Amy was supposed to get her new brace. I have refused delivery. Apparently the reason her brace is so much straighter is not because her leg is straighter, but because her orthotist decided to make it straight- even though her leg isn’t shaped that way.
Then, he puts it on her leg and I notice it’s not REMOTELY tight enough. There must have been an inch gap between her leg and the edge. That is NOT okay. He says he can fix that.
He didn’t. Well, not enough.
He comes back and it’s a little better. He puts the top part on, and here’s a HUGE gap- about 2.5 inches between the bottom of the front plate and her ankle. I pointed it out and he’s like, “oh, that’s normal because it’s taller.”
NO, IT’S NOT!
I pointed out the apex of her bow, and how it was completely exposed. How is it supposed to hold the shape of the bone if it’s sticking out? “All I can do is remake it, is that what you want?”
YES THAT’S WHAT I FREAKING WANT!
So I decide to take out my phone and offer to show him a picture to illustrate what she needs.
“I really don’t have time to look at that. I have an appointment waiting.”
I didn’t know what to say. I just picked up her old brace and left. Put her shoes on in the waiting soon, after sending someone in to collect the chip from her brace, and then again later to find her sweater.
His next (and last) appointment was done in minutes. I wish he had asked if he could just quickly see them while I got my picture ready. I wouldn’t have minded waiting. Also, no, he didn’t offer to see us again after the client left. I just feel hurt and blown off, and really, really angry. This is my CHILD. If he had listened to me in the FIRST place none of this would have happened. If he had looked at ANY of her client notes, none of this would have happened.
I just… I dunno. I love all the office staff, and I love the quality of the workmanship out of Cascade DAFO. But this orthotist… ?
He gets one more shot from me. But I’m taking Amy’s Daddy with me next time. He pulls this crap again- I’m raising hell. It should NOT be this hard to get a brace made correctly!
