Not too much of an update, but I know people are curious, so I thought I would give one.
After spending all week on round-the-clock Tylenol, Amy immediately pulled off her brace after school on Friday, as is her new usual. She’s officially has hit expert level in her wheelchair, and I’m so thankful that our home has a single level, open floor plan with no steps. It makes accommodating the wheelchair SO MUCH EASIER than our old house. Be that as it may, a little more than 1/2 the time, she prefers to be on the floor knee-walking, hopping, or crawling. But for longer distances, like to the bathroom, she hops into her chair. I’m super thankful she can handle taking herself to the bathroom now, and take care of her own business.
This weekend, we seem to have turned a corner again. She spent literally the entire weekend without a brace. In that time, she didn’t have a single muscle cramp, nor ask for meds ONCE!
This morning I was afraid we’d be back to old habits, but she uncomplainingly accepted her brace, and got moving and to school. She wasn’t able to really bear too much weight, and her gait was abhorrent, However, she went through her morning routine without a bath, Tylenol, or a complaint. (Clothes on, eat breakfast, brush teeth, put on shoes and off. to. school. ?)
School went great, and she never asked for meds there. She ditched the chair about midway though the day, and was still out when I picked her up. She pushed her chair to the car, and while she had a very noticeable limp, it wasn’t too bad.
While I ran errands, she and her little brother napped in the car. But when we finally arrived at home, she woke whining for meds, and wanting her chair. She didn’t seem like she was having great discomfort, but I gave her meds anyway. I transferred her into her chair, and once inside, the ditched the brace pretty quickly. No more requests for meds for the rest of the day. No complaints of pain. Nada. She has asked several times when she’s getting her new brace though. I’m VERY curious what will happen when she gets it.
