Today I have questions about gymnastics.

Amy is going on a pre-school field trip to a gymnastics place for a couple of hours next Tuesday.

I’m wondering what precautions I can take? What activities I should stay away from? What things I can do to help keep her safe? I just don’t want her to get hurt, but I also don’t want her to feel left out of this really cool thing her whole class gets to do.

I will be going with the class and will be one-on-one with her for safety reasons. I’ve also sent this question to her doctor and I am awaiting a reply.

I think I want to stay away from the trampoline, and jumping down from high surfaces.  Also, I will call the gymnastics place and see exactly what they will be doing and tell them Amy wears a brace, and why.

Update:
I got an answer from Dr. Hoffinger’s office:

“Good afternoon,

Any tumbling and other activities that can cause her to have any high impact landing is probably not recommended. Anything with heights, anything that involves another person/student that could (knock on wood) land on her leg should also be avoided.

I am not sure what else they have someone as young as Amy do as far as gymnastics, but err on the safe side.”

Okay, I can work with this!
