We love Carly at the Hanger Clinic in Modesto. She is so awesome! Amy is not having a good pain day today, so again we are braceless and she is in a wheelchair. Honestly, it seems like that’s the way things are most days. I have no idea what’s going to happen tomorrow she has to go to school…
Anyway, we walked into her appointment knowing she was getting a new brace. But I was also hoping there might be something done to make her more comfortable in the old brace. According to Carly, the brace is a little on the snug side, but nothing too bad. And that’s, well, bad. Good because it’s not super snug, but bad because it doesn’t point out an obvious problem. If there’s no obvious problem, I can’t fix it. ?
I also learned that the small crack that I knew the brace had, has been joined by another small crack, and another not so small crack. So she done messed it up good! ?
Amy and I took the liberty of sitting down at the Cascade DAF0 Creations Station and made her brace in advance. Then we could show Carly exactly what Amy wanted. But because Amy is four, that means she will instantly change her mind about every single aspect of the brace. However, she left the strap color the same. ?
This is the design that she has finally settled on, I think it’s adorable!
Of course, it’s not gonna look exactly like that. But the transfer pattern in the colors are all accurate, it’s just the design of the brace that will be different to fit her special needs.
As usual, her leg was all wrapped up. This time at double strength to insure no correction of the bow.
She had a really tough time cutting through the casting material, but she got it done.
Since Amy is so uncomfortable, she’s putting a rush on it. So hopefully it’ll be here in two weeks, and we have a delivery date of December 12. The bad news is that because we couldn’t identify any particular spot where she has pain, because the brace overall doesn’t look at that snug, we didn’t make any modifications to the old brace. So it is what it is, and we just have to try to make it through now until the new one is ready.
Carly truly believes that this is not a brace issue, but an internal (muscular or bony) issue. However I suppose it really is neither here nor there. At the end of the day the brace is still broken, and she still needs a new one. So will just have to cross our fingers wait two weeks, and see what happens!
Update: now she says she wants the “nice” brace with the crazy padding we picked out earlier.
UGH!!! Hanger is closed… and I think it’s too late to change her order. But, you never know… I’ll call in the morning. Will this be a lesson? Or will she get her way? Guess we’ll find out…
